Selling Your Ideas For Profit – One Thing You Need To Know First

I’m going to let you in on something that sounds really harsh but people don’t generally tell you. Something that, if you’re lucky, you get to figure out by experience.

Ideas are worth shit.

Let me qualify that. Ideas are worth shit if there’s no one executing on them.

Let’s say you’ve got an idea for a product but lack the ability to create it yourself, can’t afford to hire anyone who can create it, or can’t find anyone to invest the money you need.

Just to make clear that we’re not misunderstanding anything.

If what you want to do is to come up with ideas and have people pay you to have the honor of executing on your ideas, without you investing any of your own time and energy into the project?

“Hi, here’s an idea. Money please!”

Fuck. No. It’s not going to happen.

If you believe it’s a good idea, then you put your own time, money, and energy into it before anyone else does.

I don’t mean to be an asshole about this but I see this happen too often.

If you want to be able to sell your ideas then you first have to prove that your ideas are worthwhile. Provide value upfront. Show us that you’re a person we should pay attention to in the first place.

Start a website, blog, YouTube channel, or however you express your ideas the best, where you give away your ideas for free. That way you’ll see whether or not your ideas hold any water.

If they do then you’ll start building a reputation as someone who’s an authority on idea generation. If you market yourself properly, you will eventually be able to ask for money in exchange for your ideas.

But, you have to prove it to us first.

A part of me feels bad for saying this, but another part feels like it’s something we all should learn from the outset.

If you aren’t invested in your own ideas, why should anyone else be?
