“Life is really simple, but we insist on making it complicated.”
When you’re in the business of helping people, which in some way we all are, it’s easy to forget that we aren’t smarter than the people we help. The difference is that we have the luxury of experience and “know-how”.
Sometimes we puff ourselves up. Making ourselves more important by making the things we do sound complex when they’re really not.
It’s good to feel special, you know?
There is a danger in this.
It comes in the form of making ourselves indispensable.
When people start to rely on the help of “experts” they can lose their initiative and become dependent on us. You know, why do something difficult when you can have it done for you by someone else?
Our purpose is to build up others so that they don’t need us anymore. I don’t mean to compare adults with children, but there’s a bit of an overlap.
While making ourselves redundant sounds horrible, it’s the greatest thing we can do.
Have a kick-ass ₢eative day!
