So, you’re sitting there. Smiling like a dumbass and staring straight into nothing. Imagining all the possible permutations of a story.
You know the really great one you’ll tell your kids and grandkids?
Well, what you actually should be doing is finishing a frickin’ post and then starting on the arts & crafts project that’s sitting on the workbench.
Nothing’s coming out because all you can think of are those happy, lovey-dovey, rosy thoughts. Projecting scenes in your brain for what could possibly be a script for a romantic comedy taking form in your head.
Kind of weird how these things line up though. In my inbox I had a question from a person who seemed to be dealing with ADD/ADHD.
They asked me how they should handle it. After the obvious “get a diagnosis and the tools you need to manage it from a trained professional”, a thought struck me.
The brain is obviously trying to resolve something and it probably won’t let us focus on what we actually need to be doing unless we give it room to breathe and express itself.
Take a minute to just write down everything that pops up in your mind, in a “stream of conciousness” fashion. It’s like letting your brain take a shit.
So, that’s what I did. After 2 hours of aimless wandering I let my mind poop out all the amazing love stories it desired, and it was overjoyed.
Zac: Great. You’re happy. Now, can we focus?
Brain: Yes. Yes we can. We could also save this post for another time and instead talk about what just happened.
Z: That’s actually not a bad idea, Brain. I like the cut of your jib. You know, when you’re not…
B: Speaking of which! You know the part with the kid on the street trying to get fresh with the leading character’s lady?
Z: OMG! Please, stahp!
